چکیده

Introduction The Netherlands are actively involved in atmospheric composition measurements from space since 1995 with measurements from the GOME, sCIAMAChY and OMI satellite instruments. The MetOp satellite series with GOME-2 onboard will continue these measurements until 2020, thereby providing an important global climate data record. KNMI plays an active and often leading role in the analysis of measurements from these instruments. here we describe some scientific highlights based on sCIAMAChY and OMI data.

Validation of urban NO2 concentrations and their diurnal and seasonal variations observed from the SCIAMACHY and OMI sensors using in situ surface measurements in Israeli cities

We compare a full-year (2006) record of surface air NO2 concentrations measured in Israeli cities to coinciding retrievals of tropospheric NO2 columns from satellite sensors (SCIAMACHY aboard ENVISAT and OMI aboard Aura). This provides a large statistical data set for validation of NO2 satellite measurements in urban air, where validation is difficult yet crucial for using these measurements to...

Replies to Interactive Comments AMT2013-336 “Daytime stratospheric NO2 retrievals” Authors’ response to Anonymous Referee #1

(1) An important point is the large bias (30-50%) between OMI (KNMI DOMINO v2.0) and SCIAMACHY nadir (KNMI-BIRA TM4NO2A v2.3) retrievals, especially if both data sets are photochemically converted. It is puzzling me because Dirksen et al. (2011) and Hendrick et al. (2012) found a good agreement between OMI, SCIAMACHY nadir and groundbased observations, suggesting the absence of such a large bia...

PhD Thesis Neural networks algorithms for the estimation of atmospheric ozone from Envisat-SCIAMACHY and Aura-OMI data

Observations of ozone from satellite platform is a key source of information to monitor and understand processes that may have a relevant impact on public health, air quality and climate. To achieve at the same time a reasonable spatial resolutions and a sufficient sensitivity, nadir UV/VIS sensor may be exploited. The topic of the PhD thesis work summarized here is the use of neural networks (...

Hotspot of glyoxal over the Pearl River delta seen from the OMI satellite instrument: implications for emissions of aromatic hydrocarbons

The Pearl River delta (PRD) is a densely populated hub of industrial activity located in southern China. OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument) satellite observations reveal a large hotspot of glyoxal (CHOCHO) over the PRD that is almost twice as large as any other in Asia. Formaldehyde (HCHO) and NO2 observed by OMI are also high in the PRD but no more than in other urban/industrial areas of China....
